MoparMarket.com readers,
I often get people asking me " How much is my car worth ?" and although I usually gringe at my reply because it is the same for so many years, it is always... " It's only worth what another person is prepared to pay for it !" These are strange days for Chrysler lovers, especially the old-school enthusiast who remembers a day not so long ago when you could readily buy a good sturdy example of our beloved Valiant for not much more than a case of beer! Those days are long gone now and although it pains me to admit that, I am also pleased with it. As much as it was nice to pickup the odd $100 car it really is not healthy for the hobby, speaking from my short experience within the business side of the hobby there is little room left for the guy often labelled as a "tight-arsed wog-chariot owner". That guy used to be able to go down to his local dismantler and buy the bits he need without trouble and for a cost that almost given away. If those days were still current we would most certainly not see the amount of replacement parts that vendors Australia wide are making available for our cars, thus making it that little bit easier to keep a Valiant on the road.
Along with the increased interest in the cars has come an increase in value, and increased interest in preservation and an increase in quality cars. This is made obvious at cars shows, there's no better example than the cars that attend Chrysler On The Murray. The past few years has been an outstanding display of quality cars for our marque and the organising body really do a great job of flying the flag for mother Mopar. If you have not attended COTM before, pencil it into your calendar (16/17/18 MARCH 2007)
It's refreshing to see the hobby so strong right now, and we should all embrace it....and more importantly, enjoy it ! |
